Mara Jade Skywalker, a prominent figure in the Star Wars Legends continuity, debuted in Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel, Heir to the Empire. Initially, she served as the Emperor's Hand, a highly skilled assassin and secret agent directly reporting to Emperor Palpatine.
Following Palpatine's death at the Battle of Endor, Mara was driven by his final command to kill Luke Skywalker. However, circumstances forced them to work together, leading to a gradual shift in her allegiance. She eventually abandoned the dark side, embraced the ways of the Force, and became a Jedi Master.
Mara and Luke eventually developed a deep connection and married. Their union symbolized reconciliation and hope for the future of the Jedi Order. Together they had a son named Ben Skywalker. Tragically, Mara was killed by her nephew Jacen Solo, who fell to the dark side.
